Chaos Bazaar Vintage is a newly opened vintage store just twenty minutes outside of the city centre at 306 Goodwood Road, Clarence Park. This treasure-trove features genuine and replica vintage outfits and items ranging from the 1920s through to the 1980s, with a particular focus on the 1950s.
Recommended to me by a friend, I headed in on a Saturday to check it out. Driving from the city I found it easy to miss, not having spotted the sign but the clothes floating in the breeze outside were a dead give-away. Located between the Salvos and the Goodwood-Crossroads intersection, the place is close to a range of op-shops and antique stores.
It was a quaint little building with cute little bay windows and the enticing smell of something exciting just waiting to be discovered. The place was empty when I arrived apart from Ella, who spends her Friday and Saturdays tending to the shop.
Ella greeted me with a lovely smile and was happy to share her knowledge about the store and the clothes, walking me through the shop and pointing out which clothes were from which eras. I found her friendly, eager to help, and happy to have a chat.
There is a vast array of dresses, skirts, shorts, pants, shirts, jumpers, menswear, and accessories. The replica items were a more affordable price compared to the genuine vintage range, but this is nothing against the quality of the merchandise. For the truly beautiful handmade pieces, the price is more than worth it.
The store owner, Tatiana, popped in during my visit. Filled with energy and enthusiasm, both she and Ella were eager to help and clearly passionate about their work.
I chatted with a few customers while browsing the rows of funky clothes and antique furniture, and more than one expressed their love for this quirky little store, saying that they would be back again. The shop is full of surprises and everywhere you look there is something new to discover!
Chaos Bazaar is open Fridays 11- 5 and Saturdays 10:30 – 4:30 so please head on in if you get a chance!
